I have done myself a disservice… I came out of the gate hot with elaborate Elf scenes and now there is no going back. My oldest son is also approaching an age where he could start to not believe. In my attempt to maintain the magic and innocents, the Elf on the shelf tradition lives on in all its complicated glory. To make my life a little bit easier, I sit down and make a plan. I do this because when the kids are finally in bed I have no creative juices left. I can quickly and efficiently accomplish scenes with all the stuff already on hand. It’s a little bit of extra work up front but it serves me well the entire holiday season. See below for this year’s plan. I also linked what I have purchased. This year and in past years! Happy ELFING!
We're back! - this setup is usually my easiest.
Santa letters - the elves take our Santa letters back to the North Pole
Piñata with candy
Advent calendar - Normally the Elves bring this on the first night. But this year we are doing a cookie advent calendar, so its only 12 days.
Christmas pajamas - This is something I buy for them anyway. They get them from the elves and right before we visit Santa.
Beach scene
Hammock Scene
Picnic Scene
Sledding Scene - we use our white towels and mini marshmallows
Camp out in the living room - we are going to setup the tent in the living room and let the boys have an indoor camp out.
Ice cream for dinner - the elves are going to "cast a spell" on the parents to allow the kids to eat ice cream for dinner.
Polaroid elf - we like to do something interactive with the elves (obviously without touching them). One year they painted Jon's toes, another year we woke up with green dots on our noses. This year, elf-its.
Toilet paper snowflake
Snow globe and craft - I found snow globe crafts in the dollar section of Target. The kids will get a craft from the elves.
Felt ornaments - my favorite year was the year the elves gifted my kids their little trees. It was a magical morning and the kids spent it decorating their little trees. Since that year, the elves bring ornaments for their little trees.
Harry Potter theme
Light Show - we are taking the kids to a Christmas light show. The elves will announce that tangled up in lights.
Elf wrapped lunch - New for us! The elves will pack and wrap (in wrapping paper) their lunch.
Elf pictures - a few years back the elves covered every photo in the house with an elf picture. It was a big hit. We are bringing it back this year.
