My family was not one of these families that for generations they have been shopping the Nordstrom sale. Although I remember seeing generations walk through the doors on preview day, shopping the sale that they had for years and years past. That tradition really started with me when I began working at Nordstrom in 2006. I was in college and looking for a way to earn some income on breaks and the summer months. I loved clothing and was good with people so it made for an easy fit. For a long time, the company just happened to pay me in shoes and clothing (or at least that is what it felt like). Almost 10 years later, I was still employed with Nordstrom just in a very different capacity. My career took me into the Human Resource world, which I loved. But my passion for fashion and client experience has NEVER left me.
To my husband's disdain I still look forward to the NSALE every year. However, the last few years it feels as though it has really changed. In some ways, for the better but a lot of it has really changed in an unfavorable way. Don't get me wrong, Nordstrom will always hold a very special and loving place in my heart and they are still my retailer of choice when I shop. However, before you go to read on about my NSALE picks, I want you to know, that I don't believe you need to open a credit card to shop this sale, the stuff is not worth your financial health. Buying on credit is a scary and slippery slope. Take it from Jon and I. We were not fiscally healthy early in our marriage and it took a long time to dig out of that.
Secondly, in order to get the "good stuff" you have to be a top tier client which means spending upwards of $15K annually. Even me, who OVER shops, I don't hit that mark with them. Like most of the population, I don't get to shop until July 16th. So, getting all worked up over stuff that has to be bought on credit and forced to wait to purchase, well lets just say it has lost its luster a bit. Now, I do believe you can snag some incredible items at a discounted price. But my years of employment and shopping this sale have also taught me that most of the stuff comes back in stock at a later date and goes back on sale for the same amount, or sometimes lower.
I know this sounds counterintuitive to what I am personally trying to do with a blog and affiliate relationships, but I really just wanted to be honest with you. With that said, there are some really great picks on sale this year and I wanted to share my top picks. Just remember, you don't NEED any of this stuff but if you're in the market, here are my top picks so far. I will be adding to this list but wanted to publish my initial findings.
