Valentine’s Day in all it’s Red and Pink Glory

I hate Valentine’s Day. Yep, you heard that right. I. Hate. Valentines. Day. Seems like a pretty odd statement for me to be making as are you read this blog post but hear me out. (And please read to the end before you start messaging me.) First, I really dislike the color red, but that’s the least of my gripes. I am a firm believer that your relationship and marriage should not be put out there for others to judge nor should be splashed all over social media.

I also find it ridiculous that there is one day dedicated to celebrating your love. A healthy relationship should be quietly celebrated every day. The consistent, unspoken words travels farther and wider than the spoken. But Valentine’s Day exists, mix it with the catalyst of social media and we have a day filled with sappy messages, posted gifts and “who can top this” that you get sucked into.

For those not in relationships it can leave you feeling immensely lonely and that really breaks my heart. Just keep in mind, the louder someone is screaming from the roof tops, the more likely it is they are overcompensating. Now, I am not wishing ill on anyone and I don’t want to be negative Nelly. I just want everyone to keep this in mind when their feeds are flooded with “love” on February 14th.

Don’t get me wrong, I want nothing more than the world to be filled with more love. But authentic love. Love where you really put someone above yourself and they do the same for you. With ALL that said, the day is important because no matter how you feel about the actual day, it is a good excuse to show those you love most all that love you hold on the inside.

If you’re interested in some great gift ideas for those you hold closest to your heart, I’ve got you covered.

I had previously shared kids’ Valentines that are great for school parties. I’ve reposted those here. Click on the images below to take you to LIKEtoKNOW.it.

I’ve also rounded up my favorite ideas for the guy or gal in your life, as well as your kids. I don’t believe this needs to be an “expensive” holiday although I did grab items at a variety of price points. This is the holiday where you really dig deep, think about them and get them something with immense thought. What is going to make them the happiest… for some that might just be wine or a new handbag.

If you have children, I do think it is important to make a big deal on that day. It teaches our little ones how we should respect, cherish and celebrate those who hold our hearts. It teaches our little girls what it’s like to be respected and celebrated. We don’t want our little ladies settling for less than they deserve. For our little men, it shows them that it’s okay to be vulnerable and wear their heart on their sleeves. Also, how to treat those that hold in their heart. Ok now onto the good stuff. Check out my favorite VDay gifts for the littles.
